Muza-chan's Gate to Japan

Popular Japanese food, Taiyaki

Thu, April 10, 2014, by Muza-chan
Fish dishes are extremely popular in the Japanese cuisine and there are even snacks made of fish and seafood... but not everything that looks like a fish is actually made of fish... (^_^)

Take for example the Taiyaki: these sweet Japanese snacks, shaped like sea breams, are made of pancake or waffle batter and are traditionally filled with azuki bean paste. You can also find taiyaki filled with custard, chocolate, sweet potato or even sausage or cheese...

It is believed that they first appeared at the beginning of the 20th century, under the influence of the Western culture, but today the taiyaki snacks are omnipresent at Japanese festivals.
