Population density, Shibuya scramble crossing crowd

The population density in Tokyo is a little over 6000 people per square kilometer, and it is obviously the most densely populated area in Japan.
But what does this mean? I think that the best way to sample such density is to visit the famous scramble crossing from Shibuya during rush-hour... it's an experience in itself...
