Muza-chan's Gate to Japan

A little rest at Toshougu Shrine

Wed, January 26, 2011, by Muza-chan
The Toshougu Shrine from Ueno is one of the few shrines in Tokyo having survived to all the great calamities: fires, earthquakes and air raids.
It was established by Todo Takatora, a feudal lord, in 1627 and reconstructed by the third Tokugawa Shogun, Tokugawa Iemitsu, in 1651. The shrine was dedicated to the spirit of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa shogunate.

Today, the Ueno Toshougu is an oasis of silence in the middle of the bustling Ueno Park, a place where you can rest for a few seconds, admiring the golden decorations and thinking of history...
