The Zen garden of the Ryoan-ji Temple is one of the most famous Japanese Zen gardens and an interesting fact is that from any view point, only 14 of the 15 stones can be seen. It is known that it was built during the Muromachi period, but not much is known for sure today about the artist who designed it, because there are multiple, contradicting versions. Probably because of this uncertainty, at the same time little is known about the original meaning of the 15 stones... but I like it like this... it allows everyone's imagination to fly...
The garden has a special charm during this period of the year, because there's a spectacular sakura right outside the garden...
