Muza-chan's Gate to Japan

Samurai period calligraphy class at Nisshin-kan

Fri, February 1, 2019, by Muza-chan
The study of shodo, the Japanese calligraphy, was important in the samurai han schools of the Edo period. Writing beautifully was considered a reflection of a beautiful character and personality.

Photographed here is a scene recreated at the Nisshin-kan samurai school, in Aizu-Wakamatsu, representing the children of Aizu clan samurai learning shodo.
