Muza-chan's Gate to Japan

Saruhashi, one of Japan's finest bridges

Sat, November 19, 2016, by Muza-chan
After visiting Japan for so many times, I almost unintentionally started a quest to visit tourist destinations included in various "best in Japan" top lists... Today, I arrived in Otsuki, in the Yamanashi prefecture, to admire Saruhashi, a bridge included on the "Japan's finest three bridges" list. It is my second bridge on this list, after I visited, quite some time ago, the Shinkyo bridge in Nikko.

The Saruhashi name means "monkey bridge", and comes from a story saying that the bridge's architecture was inspired by monkeys holding hands to cross the river... The bridge looks best around this time of the year, late in the autumn, when the surrounding trees are all in autumn colors...
