Seijin no hi, girls dressed in furisode

In the second Monday of January, Japan celebrates the Coming of Age Day (Seijin no Hi), a ceremony for the young adults reaching the age of 20 during the current school year. 20 years is the age of adulthood in Japan, the age of the right to vote and also... to legally drink alcohol and smoke...

During this day in Japan takes place a huge, picturesque parade of costumes, so you will meet everywhere young people dressed in beautiful traditional attire. Girls are wearing furisode, a type of vividly colored kimono with very long sleeves, traditionally worn only by unmarried women, while boys are traditionally dressed in a dark kimono with hakama (but I also saw boys preferring modern costumes).
