Shibuya's... Basketball Street or just a silly name?

Fri, September 30, 2011, by Muza-chan
Center Gai (センター街 Sentaa-gai) is one of the most popular streets from Shibuya, both for locals and tourists, who are especially attracted by the famous clothing stores. However, unlike the surrounding area, the street has kind of a bad name because in the past there were some law infringements taking place there (don't be scared, just some illegal sellers), so it was nicknamed kowai-gai, the "scary street".

A few days ago, to get rid of the bad name, the Association of Center Gai businesses come up with the idea to rename the street to... "Basketball Street"... Besides the fact that it's a silly name (the reason given is that a major basketball court is located nearby...), do you think that the reputation will improve just because of a name change?
