Shidarezakura, weeping cherry trees

There are many species of trees, over 200, generically called sakura, widely differing in the color and shape of the flower, shape of crown or blooming period... What they definitely have in common is the beauty of the blossoms...

The Japanese garden designers are carefully taking into account these variations, selecting the species that integrates best with the rest of the garden. The sakura planted inside the Higashi Shin'en ("East Garden") of the Heian Shrine in Kyoto is a Shidarezakura, with intense pink flowers and branches looking like a weeping willow tree, hence also called "weeping cherry tree"...
