Muza-chan's Gate to Japan

Shimonoseki Akama Shrine

Mon, June 18, 2018, by Muza-chan
The Akama shrine in Shimonoseki is dedicated to the Emperor Antoku, who died at the age of 6 during the Battle of Dan-no-ura, when his grandmother jumped with him in the water to avoid capture by the enemies.

This was the decisive naval battle of the Genpei War, which took place in the Kanmon Straits, right in front of the shrine.
