Nishi-Shinjuku in Twilight

In 1923, when the last big earthquake hit Tokyo, the Nishi-Shinjuku area suffered less damage than the surrounding zones, proving to be more stable, so in the 1970s this area was chosen for construction of the first Tokyo skyscrapers.
The first skyscraper built in Nishi-Shinjuku was Keio Plaza Hotel - North Tower (178 meters), in 1971. The most recent one is the Mode Gakuen Cocoon Tower (204 meters), finished in 2008.
The construction of skyscrapers will continue, the Nishi-Shinjuku 3-Chōme Redevelopment project includes the East Office Tower, which will become the tallest building in Japan, with a height of 338 meters.
