Shinto shrines, Sumiyoshi

The shrines bearing the name Sumiyoshi are enshrining a group of three kami, collectively known as Sumiyoshi tanjin, gods worshiped for protecting sea travel, agriculture, and fishing, and known for promoting the waka poetry.

To them, it is often added the Empress Jingu, a legendary ruler that led Japan around the years 200. The legend says that before starting a military expedition in Korea, Empress Jingu received advice from the three kami. The group of four is known as Sumiyoshi Ōkami, the great gods of Sumiyoshi.
