Flanking the shores of Shirakawa, a name that means "white river", this area of old ochaya tea-houses in the Gion district of Kyoto was always appreciated because of the pleasant atmosphere created by the water flow. A law was passed in 1976 to prevent the demolition of old ochaya, and today Shirakawa is one of the most charming places in Kyoto...
