Shinmon is a massive structure, 6 meters tall, built in 1934. The doors are decorated with a 1.5 meters diameter gold chrysanthemum crest, the Imperial Seal of Japan.
Shinmon is one of the most beautiful gates of this kind in Tokyo, and in the light of the sunset, the hinoki cypress wood had an otherworldly shining... And even if it was almost the closing time and the guards were urging us to leave (without the Japanese politeness...), most of the visitors were lingering for a few moments, for a snapshot of this magnificent gate:
