Japan is one of the most progressive countries in the world, but at the same time one of the most conservative when it comes to culture and tradition, an apparent paradox. However, these two aspects are intertwined in the day to day life, a fact easily noticed when visiting Japan.

Photographed here is a street scene than seems taken from a historical movie, however quite common in the more traditional neighborhoods of the Japanese cities. A machiya townhouse that still looks like in the Edo period, and passersby dressed in traditional attire...
