Takeuma, the Japanese Stilt Walking

A long time ago, when there was no Internet and no video games... the kids were playing simpler but definitely healthier games. (^_^)
One of these games, preferred especially by boys, was takeuma (that can be translated as "bamboo horse"), the Japanese equivalent of the walking stilts.

Takeuma is actually a pair of bamboo poles with a sort of footrest on top, tethered with a string. It's a good game for developing balance, experienced players being able to run, climb stairs or even wrestle on these poles. Of course, children playing takeuma are rare today, but some museums are offering visitors a chance to try it and I heard that some schools are trying to help children rediscover this very old game by including takeuma in their sports activities...
