A Tengu from Mount Takao

There are many statues of Tengu at Takaosan Yakuoin Yukiji Temple. Tengu are magical beings from the Japanese folklore (youkai), described by both the Buddhist and by the Shinto religion (as minor kami).

This statue is located nearby the Main Hall, representing a long-nosed tengu. He holds in his hand an uchiwa (Japanese fan), that sweeps away the misfortune, bringing good luck.
