One of the last gardens built by a daimyo (lord) is the Tensha-en in Uwajima, on the Shikoku island. Built by Date Munenori, the lord of the Uwajima domain in 1866, at the end of the Edo Period, the garden is an amazing scenic spot, designed around a pond shaped to suggest the kanji for "kokoro" 心, meaning "mind", "heart", "spirit" or "soul".
