Dedicated to Shimazu Nariakira, the last daimyo of Satsuma, Terukuni shrine is the most important Shinto shrine in Kagoshima city.

An interesting fact is that the original object of worship was a photo of Shimazu Nariakira taken by a retainer, considered to be the first photo taken by Japanese.
