Muza-chan's Gate to Japan

The Great Buddha, Todai-ji Temple, Nara

Sat, February 4, 2017, by Muza-chan
The second oldest Great Buddha in Japan is the Nara Daibutsu of the Todai-ji Temple in Nara. It is only 143 years "younger" than the oldest one (which is the Asuka Daibutsu in Asuka, Nara), and it is one of the most famous statues in Japan. Built in 752, the almost 15-meters-tall statue is housed in the largest wooden structure in the world, the Main Hall of Todai-ji.
