The typical Zen garden covers a surface of about 150 to 300 de square meters. The
smallest Zen garden officially acknowledged, Totekiko of Ryogen-in, Kyoto, has less than 20 square meters, and the largest Zen garden is the one photographed here, at Kongobu-ji, Kōya-san, in Wakayama, with a surface of 2340 square meters.
It was built by using 140 rocks, all brought from Shikoku, the birthplace of Kobo Daishi, the founder of the first temple on Kōya-san. The garden represents two dragons flying through the the clouds...
