The legend tells that a priest called Myoun, chief priest of the Jomyo-in Temple, having faith in the guardian deity of children (Jizo), decided to erect 1000 stone images of Jizo. After having completed the 1000 images, he reset his goal to 84000 images...
It is probably unknown how many Jizo statues and images are today in the Jomyo-in Temple, but it is definitely a place worth seeing!
