Tokyo Daibutsu

During my many visits to Japan, besides the tourist areas, well-known throughout the world or only in Japan, I also try to visit less known places and, if I find them worthy, I try to share them with the world.

That's the case of Tokyo Daibutsu, a Great Buddha statue visited yesterday in Itabashi, Tokyo, at the Jouren-ji Temple. With a height of 13 meters, it is only 0.35 meter smaller than the world famous Kamakura Daibutsu, but of course, it is a lot younger: built in 1977, the Tokyo Daibutsu was made to commemorate the victims of the WWII and the victims of the Great Kanto earthquake from 1923.

Travel tip: If you would like to visit it, take a Tōbu Tōjō train from Ikebukuro to Narimasu and then walk about 15 minutes to Jouren-ji (here's the Google Maps address).
