The first outdoor cafe in Ginza was established in 1911 by Shozo Matsuyama, a painter who visited France and wanted to create a French atmosphere in Tokyo. He opened Café Printemps, which became famous very fast, attracting writers, actors, musicians, intellectuals and geisha, all coming to enjoy a cup of coffee and interesting discussions.
That was the begining of the parasols tables, which are still set up in weekends, when Ginza becomes a pedestrian paradise between noon and 5PM, every weekend and on public holidays.
