Tokyo's busiest train station on the New Year, Harajuku

On a regular day, the JR Harajuku Station is a minor stop on the Yamanote line. With only about 70 thousand passengers per day, Harajuku is no match for the nearby Shibuya Station, which handles 380 thousand passengers per day.

However, from the New Year's Eve until January 1st, this small station becomes the busiest train station in Tokyo, because it serves Meiji Jingu, the most popular shrine for Hatsumode. During the first three days of the year, approximately 3 million people are coming to Meiji Jingu...
