Muza-chan's Gate to Japan

Tokyo Station's glamorous dome, interior view

Fri, May 10, 2013, by Muza-chan
The old Marunouchi side of the Tokyo Station was originally built in 1914, designed in the European Renaissance style by a famous Japanese architect, Kingo Tatsuno. Bombed in May 1945, the building was immediately rebuilt, but not by the original design: it was only 2-stories tall instead of 3 and the shape of the roof was simplified.

During the last 5 years, the building went through an extensive renovation and now the Tokyo Station looks again as it was in 1914, glamorous and romantic. Take a look at its interior, right under one of the octagonal domes, with pillars, arches, sculptures, all under a perfect lighting.
