Tsukishima Street, Old-and-New combination

Tsukishima is one of the few areas in Tokyo that remained unchanged since the end of the 19th century. It wasn't affected by the Great Kanto Earthquake and it was spared by the bombings of the WWII.
The old backstreets around the monjayaki restaurants are friendly, narrow, filled with flower pots, with old houses and, here and there, with a bicycle...

The only big change was in the background, in 1994, when the St.Luke's Tower appeared on the other side of the Sumida river. With its height of 221 meters, St.Luke's Tower is the 10th tallest skyscraper in Tokyo and is visible from almost every street in Tsukishima.
