Muza-chan's Gate to Japan

Tsutsuji (Azalea)

Tue, August 20, 2019, by Muza-chan
In Japan, the azaleas (tsutsuji) were cultivated since ancient times, and you they can be seen everywhere, from the high-class gardens to the side of the road. They are resistant to pollution, high-temperatures and dry weather.

The popularity of azaleas grew during the Edo period, when a large variety of flowers was developed, like the Purple Azaleas in today's photo.
