Visiting Kyoto, Kaiso-do Zen Hall

Ryogen-in is a sub-temple of the larger Daitoku-ji, one of my favorite spiritual locations in Kyoto, probably because it features the best visiting path I have experienced until now. The path follows the 5 Zen gardens of the temple, alternating them with various temple interiors and halls.

Of course, the main attractions are the Zen gardens like Totekiko, the smallest Japanese Zen rock garden, Isshidan, Koda-tei and Ryogin-tei. However, while visiting these breathtaking gardens, don't overlook the Kaiso-do, the "hall of the founder", built to honor Tokei Soboku, the priest who founded Daitoku-ji.
