I love the part about the foxes. I had seen images of those white foxes before but did not know they were related to Inari. And good to see you back.

Having the male statue's mouth open, and the female's closed on protector statues is pretty common in Japan. The same thing happens with Okinawa's Shisa statues. The are set outside most houses and buildings in Okinawa to protect against bad spirits.
