A Japan Photo per Day
A glimpse of old Japan, Tsukishima streets
Visiting Japan, you will be fascinated by many attractions, but you will certainly want to experience even a glimpse of the old Japan… And fortunately, there are quite a few places where you can do that… and not only on the traditional streets from Kyoto, but also in a few neighborhoods from Tokyo… where if I have to pick one, I would recommend Tsukishima, the artificial island from Chūō…
A truly blessed area, that escaped undamaged by the two great disasters that hit Tokyo during the 20th century (the Great Kanto Earthquake and the WWII bombings), Tsukishima is like a magical place, almost hidden between skyscrapers: narrow streets, old houses decorated with flower pots, appetizing restaurants and really old shops… and sometimes you get the feeling that even the residents come from a different epoch…
