Japanese superlatives, the tallest seated Buddha bronze statue

Fri, October 10, 2014, by Muza-chan

Statues representing various Buddhas and Bodhisattvas were erected in Japan since the old times and some of them still standing today. The trend of building large statues continued in the modern times, and the usage of advanced technologies and new materials allowed the construction of amazingly large statues.

One example is the Ushiku Daibutsu, the third tallest statue in the world (120 meters). Another impressive statue is the one photographed here, the Shōwa Daibutsu, which is the tallest seated bronze figure of Buddha in Japan (21.35 meters). Built in 1984, this statue can be visited in Aomori, inside the Seiryū-ji Temple.
