Japanese signs, Kakigori

The summer is approaching, and if you visit Japan during summertime, you will surely need some cool refreshments. Of course, ice cream is the first that comes into mind, but in Japan there’s an even cooler alternative: kakigōri 「かき氷」, an old, traditional Japanese dessert made of shaved ice flavored with different syrups.

You will find kakigōri in coffee shops, out in the street at food stalls or in restaurants. And there’s a very simple way to find out if the place sells kakigōri: look for the banner with the kanji 氷, like the one in today’s photo…
