Kokura Castle garden

One aesthetic principle of the Japanese gardens, the “borrowed scenery” (shakkei in Japanese) was originally used for the garden of the Kokura castle, by using the castle’s tower to improve the scenery.

Today, the garden was reconstructed on the original site, and offers another “borrowed scenery", with the modern RiverWalk Kitakyushu in the background, a particular Japanese combination of old and new…
