12 Views of Rainbow Bridge

Crossing Tokyo Bay and connecting the Odaiba artificial island to the Shibaura Pier, Rainbow Bridge is the largest bridge in Tokyo.

The construction started in 1987 and was completed 6 years later.

The official name is “Shuto Expressway No. 11 Daiba Route - Port of Tokyo Connector Bridge”, but it is only known as the Rainbow Bridge 「レインボーブリッジ」, name decided by the public.

As a reference to the name of the bridge, a segment of the bridge’s walkway, between the two towers, features pillars painted in rainbow colors:

Being a suspension bridge, Rainbow Bridge is just the 52nd longest suspension bridge in the world (calculated by the length of the main span, between the towers: 580 meters) and the 13th in Japan. It’s total length is 789 meters.

Even if it’s not a record of any kind, Rainbow Bridge is one of the main symbols of Tokyo.

I photographed Rainbow Bridge hundred of times, from many places, and I even crossed it by foot several times… From all these photos, I selected some of the best and compiled this set of 12 viewpoints.

Traversând Tokyo Bay şi legând insula artificială Odaiba de portul Shibaura, Rainbow Bridge este cel mai lung pod din Tokyo.

Construcţia podului a început în 1987 şi a durat 6 ani.

Numele oficial este “Shuto Expressway No. 11 Daiba Route - Port of Tokyo Connector Bridge”, însă este cunoscut cu numele de Rainbow Bridge, 「レインボーブリッジ」, nume care a fost decis de către public.

Ca referinţă la numele podului, un segment al zonei pietonale, situat între cele două turnuri, are pilonii vopsiţi în culorile curcubeului:

Rainbow Bridge este un pod de tip “suspension” şi se afla pe locul al 52-lea din lume (calculat după distanţa dintre cele două turnuri: 580 metri) şi pe locul al 13-lea din Japonia. Lungimea totală este de 789 metri.

Însă chiar dacă nu deţine vreun record, Rainbow Bridge este unul din simbolurile oraşului Tokyo.

Am fotografiat Rainbow Bridge de sute de ori, din multe locuri, şi chiar l-am traversat pe jos de câteva ori… Dintre toate aceste fototgrafii, am selectat câteva dintre cele mai bune şi am compilat un set de 12 locuri din care se vede Rainbow Bridge. Sper să vă placă toate! :)
