At the end of the 20th century a few new entertaining areas were added in Tokyo to the old, traditional ones. Many of these new attractions were built on places never used before (like the Odaiba complex, which resides on an artificial island built at the end of the Edo period) or on places with a grim past, like the Sunshine City from Ikebukuro which was built on the place of the inauspicious Sugamo Prison.
The Tokyo Dome City kind of belongs to the second category, being built on the grounds of the former Koishikawa arsenal. Its most prominent building is the Tokyo Dome Hotel, a 155 meters skyscraper built in a modernist architectural style, one of the best known hotels from Tokyo.
