Although it embodies the very idea of modernity, Japan is more of a traditional place. Leaving aside the preserved old areas, even some of the modern, glass and steel buildings are furnished inside with traditional decor.
One of the best examples of modernity mixed with tradition was this stylish restaurant entrance, discovered in Fukuoka. While passing next to a very modern construction, first I noticed the Kyoto-style inu-yarai, then I observed the facade inspired by traditional Japanese restaurants, with wooden lattice and noren decorated curtain. And there’s also a very small tsubo-niwa garden, beautifully lit by a lantern, complementing the atmosphere…
