Umeda Sky Building

One of the most spectacular skyscrapers from Japan is located in Osaka: the Umeda Sky Building. At only 173 meters it is not very tall, but the design is astonishing.

The building was part of a project called the City of Air, which planned to interconnect 4 towers. In the end, only 2 towers were built but even so, the result seems to be taken from a sci-fi movie. The deck connecting the towers is a huge observatory called the Floating Garden Observatory, which offers a 360 degrees panorama over the city.

Finished in 1993, the building was designed by Hiroshi Hara, who also designed the Kyoto Station (which I’ll be visiting soon).

I so wanted to go up to the Floating Garden... but with my fear of heights, I doubt I would have enjoyed it. It's definitely an eye-catching building however.

+Muza-chan . Might well be true. The two towers were finished in the early 1990s - maybe the authorities already saw Osaka's finances slide off into an abyss...Even so, the architecture is quite cool.

Was supposed to have four towers in the beginning, but the number was reduced due to "practical considerations". This maybe means the cost.
