Muza-chan's Gate to Japan

Breathtaking interior of the giant Daikannon statue from Sendai

Mon, September 23, 2013, by Muza-chan
The giant statues from Japan are really impressive constructions, but few people know that some of them have even more impressive interiors! Some of these statue are in fact amazing architectural projects...

Here is one of the most spectacular interiors I have visited, the interior of the Sendai Daikannon statue. Circular stairs, climbing all the way to the height of 100 meters, with groups of statues beautifully displayed on each floor, around the central column. There are 108 statues here, one for each of the earthly temptations a person must overcome to achieve Nirvana, so this is in fact a kind of pilgrimage...
Anyway, whether you're interested in Nirvana or not, you have to agree that the view from the top is breathtaking...
