The story of Sadako Sasaki, the girl from Hiroshima who died because of illness caused by the nuclear bomb radiations is now well known in the entire world.

She is remembered for her hope to be cured by the ancient legend of the One thousand origami cranes, but since she died before finishing them, her friends completed the 1000, and since then many, many people throughout the world continued sending to Hiroshima paper cranes.
Today, there are about 10 million paper cranes sent every year to Hiroshima...
