Japanese house on Shitamachi-naka street

If you enjoyed Spirited Away (Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi), then you may also enjoy a visit to the Edo Tokyo Open Air Museum, located in Tokyo's Koganei Park.

On the museum's Shitamachi-Naka street, we can admire a few pseudo-Western style buildings, which were a source of inspiration for the director Hayao Miyazaki. One of them is the house seen in the center of this photo. There are several buildings in Spirited Away drawn from the same point of view, with similar roofs and windows.

This is a Japanese house with a kitchenware store at the first floor, built around 1930 in Kanda, Chiyoda-ku. The facade is covered with copper sheets, a popular fire protection at the time.
