Muza-chan's Gate to Japan

Japanese mascots, Donpen

Sun, January 12, 2014, by Muza-chan
Besides the Suica mascot, who is arguably the best known penguin in Japan, here's another successful penguin mascot, Donpen. His name comes from the first syllable of the company name (plus "pen" from penguin) and by looking at the photo you probably already guessed that he's the mascot of Don Quijote (Donki), one of the most popular Japanese discount chain stores.

On this huge billboard of the store from the Dotonbori Canal in Namba, Osaka, Donpen is represented next to Ebisu, one of the Seven Gods of Luck (Shichifukujin).
