Muza-chan's Gate to Japan

World Heritage sites in Japan, Nikko

Sat, December 14, 2013, by Muza-chan
Most of the tourists visiting Japan are interested to see historical places that define the country. And much to my delight, since I started working on this website, I have been asked countless times for advice on trip planning, which I happily give.

Maybe I should prepare a list of places "to visit" in Japan... But until then, here's a place that should be on any tourist's to-do list, the complex of Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples from Nikko.

I'm recommending Nikko for exactly the same reasons why it was listed as one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites: it is a wonderful and unique illustration of the Edo period's religious architectural style and everything here was built with perfection to detail, whether we're speaking of decorations or construction techniques (e.g. the earthquake resistant pagoda or Ishidorii stone gate).
