Norimono

Thu, May 18, 2017

The equivalent of a luxury limo in the medieval Japan was the norimono (photographed here) a type of expensive palanquin used exclusively by the warrior class and the nobility.

With an interior designed to be as comfortable as possible and decorated with metal fittings to exhibit the social status, the norimono offered the greatest travel luxury available in the Edo period.
