Nagasaki One-legged stone torii

Today, at 11:02 Japan time, Nagasaki commemorates 71 years since the WWII atomic bombing. The torii gate photographed here, located only 800 meters from the explosion epicenter, was shattered by the blast, but one leg somehow remained standing, although it was rotated 30 degrees inside its pedestal. Called the “One-legged torii“, it became one of the Nagasaki simbols…

Close-by, at the Sannō Shrine, there are also the two famous Nagasaki survivor camphor trees, that although burned by the blast, miraculously survived and are today green again…
