The site of Osaka Castle

Tue, January 26, 2016

Today, Osaka castle is located in the center of the Osaka city, about 3 kilometers from Osaka Station. However, in 1496, when the Priest Rennyo built on this site the first Ishiyama Hongan-ji temple fortress, it was located on the outskirts of town.

The fortress was destroyed by the warlord Oda Nobunaga after 10 years of war with the Ikkō sect, and three years later Toyotomi Hideyoshi started the construction of the Osaka Castle, one of the most important castles built at the end of the Sengoku period.
