Japanese Hello Kitty lollipops

Dating back to the Edo period, Amezaiku, the Japanese art of sculpting lollipops from hotly melted candies was once very popular, but there are few artisans practicing it today.

The artisans were replaced by machines, but the today’s shaped lollipops are no less appetizing… Just that if during the Edo period the Amezaiku sweets were shaped like animals, now the lollipops are shaped into popular characters like Hello Kitty, Doraemon, Pikachu…
