Bogakuro Pavilion

Wed, May 21, 2014

Garden pavilions are rarely seen in the Japanese gardens, they are, in fact, specific to the Chinese gardening techniques. However, in some cases the two styles were combined, creating a new garden harmony.

That’s the case with the Sengan-en garden in Kagoshima, were a Chinese-style pavilion was placed in the most scenic part of the garden, with the Mount Sakurajima on one side and the lake on the other. The Bogakuro pavilion was a gift received by the lord of Satsuma (the owner of the garden) from the king of the Ryukyu Kingdom (today’s Okinawa).
