Famous Japanese tea houses, Uchihashi-tei

Because the tea houses are usually built inside larger gardens, the famous Japanese gardens are also featuring famous tea houses: in today’s photo I would like to share with you this wonderful chashitsu from the Kenroku-en Garden in Kanazawa, which seems to float over the Kasumiga-ike pond (located near the even more famous Kotoji lantern).

Called Uchihashi-tei, this tea house was built in 1776, on a horse riding ground, but in 1874, after the lake of the garden was enlarged and a hill was built next to the shore, Uchihashi-tei was moved on its current scenic location, being placed on stone pillars above the water, to give the sensation that it is floating…
