Sunset at Fushimi Inari, Kyoto

If you love taking photos, you surely know that the time of day when you take the photo is of maximum importance: the color of the light, the sun’s position, the shadows, all these are very important ingredients in photography…

For a traveler like me, who rarely returns to the same place, to catch a good light for a photo is a matter of good luck, careful planning and readiness for improvisation. But in same cases, it is almost impossible to plan ahead… In Japan, most temples are closing at 4:30 PM, so you can rarely take photos inside a temple’s courtyard on the warm light of the summer sunset. Fortunately, with just a few exceptions, the Shinto shrines are opened until late in the night. So, at the Fushimi Inari Shrine from Kyoto, I was able to wait for this beautiful light…
